IG Masonry Support’s tailored solutions for high-profile hotel development

Located alongside the world-renowned Silverstone racetrack in Towcester, Escapade is a brand-new hotel development aimed at motorsport enthusiasts. Built by HG Construction, the £53m project features 60 high-end, contemporary residences, designed to offer luxury living just 12 metres from the trackside. The development also includes a two-storey clubhouse alongside premium amenities such as a swimming pool, gym, wellness and dining facilities.

The residences, which feature configurable designs and modern interiors, are part of a larger 14-acre site, some of which offer spectacular views of the racetrack from private terraces. As part of the build, IG Masonry Support worked closely with the design team and contractor to provide bespoke Windposts, tailored to the specific requirements of each unit, ensuring the safety and integrity of this high-profile project.

The Challenge

One of the key challenges faced by HG Construction and IG Masonry Support was the requirement for bespoke Windposts to support the varying structural needs of the units across the development. Built using a Steel Framing System with rainscreen timber cladding, each residence required a Windpost solution tailored to its design, and the specifications varied based on factors such as base fixings, head fixings, and specific floor heights.

The Solution

IG Masonry Support provided a range of DU Windposts, Wall Ties, and associated fixings for the Escapade project, with bespoke designs for various structural constraints. These heavy-duty Windposts, manufactured from durable stainless steel with EPD: Global Verification, ensure structural integrity, meet stringent safety standards, and contribute to the project's BREEAM Very Good rating.

A key challenge was the tailored design of the base and top plates, customised to fit different unit types, some requiring fixings to concrete, others to timber floor joists or steel. IG Masonry Support’s engineering team collaborated with the project’s structural engineer to ensure secure alignment with the building’s structural elements. Each Windpost variant was tailored to specific heights for varying floor levels. Detailed Construction Issue Drawings from IG ensured precision during installation.

While IG Masonry Support is experienced in standard Windpost solutions, this project required a more personalised approach. The bespoke base and top plates, along with the specific Windpost heights, were unusual. Through close collaboration with the design and engineering teams, IG delivered a solution perfectly matching the project’s requirements.
