Sustainability nomination puts BriggsAmasco in frame for SPRA success
BriggsAmasco is a nominated finalist in this year’s SPRA Awards, celebrating excellence, innovation and sustainable ingenuity in the single-ply roofing sector.
The leading roofing and waterproofing contractor is shortlisted in SPRA’s Sustainability category. It’s in relation to the company’s Passivhaus roof installation at the newly-built Perth High School in Scotland. The £80m building denotes a ‘bold new chapter’ for the non-denominational secondary facility, one of the first and largest Passivhaus schools in Scotland.
Tony Lawther, managing director at BriggsAmasco said: “Congratulations to the teams involved in the Perth High School Passivhaus roof delivery. A SPRA awards shortlisting is a fine achievement in itself. It’s particularly pleasing to be recognised in the Sustainability category. Our development of smarter, more energy-efficient products and practices is not only key to us achieving our long-term environmental goals; it’s our contribution to a less impactful built environment.”
BriggsAmasco was selected by main contractor Robertson Construction to install Perth High School’s main roof to a Passivhaus Classic requirement of 67kwH/m2/annum.
The £2m project covered a circa 6,000m2 roof area. BriggsAmasco’s installation comprised a Bauder Thermofol Single Ply Warm Roof system, steel decking, perimeter drip flashings, permanent edge protection, and a permanent walkway.
Managing the roof’s complex changes in level required accessing key plant areas, demanding a rigorous approach to Passivhaus compliance. To prevent thermal bridging at these junctions, BriggsAmasco partnered with Robertson Construction and NORR Architects to design a continuous, two-layer 320mm insulation system. The intricate detailing was initially verified using a 50m2 mock-up at BriggsAmasco’s Cumbernauld facility to ensure the stringent standards were achievable. The innovative solution was critical to securing the building’s high-performance, fully sealed thermal envelope.
Tony continued: “The Perth High School project showcases our teams’ ingenuity in overcoming complex and challenging issues to fulfil a client’s precise waterproofing and thermal requirements. The teams are an asset to BriggsAmasco and the roofing profession as a whole.”
SPRA category winners will be announced at an awards luncheon being held on 1st July at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham.
