Mira wins good design award

  •

Known for creating an accessible and safe showering experience, the Mira Select Flex, designed and manufactured by Mira Showers, scooped its third award in 2024 – this time taking home a Good Design Award at the Good Design® exhibition in November.

Having been run since 1951, Good Design® is the world’s oldest and most prestigious awards programme and honours the achievements of the best graphic designers and world manufacturers ‘for their pursuit of extraordinary design excellence.’

Focusing on accessibility, inclusivity, and ease of use, the Mira Select Flex mixer shower utilises a traditional surface-mounted concentric mixer, along with several tactile, visual and audible cues, to aid user navigation and ensure a comfortable, accessible, and pleasurable showering experience for all users.

Catering for a broad range of physical disabilities and visual impairments, the Select Flex is incredibly safe and easy to use, whether standing, seated, or being assisted by a carer. Indeed, this innovative mixer shower features a low-friction slide bar for easy, one-handed adjustment of shower head height, a simple push-button actuation to enable consistent temperature and flow control every time the shower is used, and an easy-grip loop handle lever for temperature control.

Furthermore, the shower’s detents and visuals have been designed and developed in conjunction with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) to ensure it is optimised for those with visual impairments. It is the only RNIB ‘Tried and Tested’ accredited mixer shower.

The Good Design Award success follows two other major award wins in 2024, with the Select Flex also taking home the iF Design award and silver medal in the IDEA award category at the Industrial Designers Society of America Awards.

Dave Pixton, Senior Industrial Designer at Mira Showers, was delighted the innovation of the Select Flex had been acknowledged and stated the three award wins in 2024 were testimony to the determination and drive of all at Mira Showers to further improve accessibility, quality, and safety standards. He said: “Exemplifying inclusive design and making showering accessible for everyone, the Mira Select Flex is a shining example of how technology can be utilised to really make a difference in the home.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to have won the Good Design Award and winning three awards in one year is testimony to the dedication and commitment of the team to ensure accessible and inclusive design.”
