IG Masonry Support’s role in blending heritage with modern living
The Warehaus Ancoats development in Manchester represents a thoughtful blend of historical preservation and contemporary residential design.
Situated within the Ancoats conservation area, the project involved the restoration and conversion of an existing warehouse, coupled with the construction of two new residential buildings. The design strategy prioritised the retention of the site’s historical character, particularly within the existing warehouse structure.
The development, completed in Spring 2019, provides 32 new dwellings, comprising a mix of townhouses and apartments. The architectural design of the new buildings incorporates contemporary elements while referencing the character of the retained warehouse and the surrounding architectural vernacular. The project contributes to the revitalization of the Ancoats area, which has become a vibrant residential community.
IG Masonry Support was approached to design and manufacture essential structural solutions, including Windposts and Welded Masonry Support systems. Each Welded Masonry Support system fixed back to a concrete structure and were designed to suit cavity widths between 150mm and 200mm. Each system was supplied with A1 Fire-Rated Thermal Shims, Lock Washers and Fixings as standard.
Windposts were manufactured to span vertically between floors to provide lateral support for large panels of brickwork.
In recent years, Ancoats has been transformed from an industrial wasteland into one of the country’s top-choices for new residents, small businesses and visitors. The Warehaus Ancoats project joins a long list of residential projects completed by IG Masonry Support in the Manchester area since our inception in 2015.
