Grayson is now officially carbon neutral
Multi-award-winning construction consumables supplier, Grayson, is proud to have achieved the ambitious goal of becoming a PAS 2060 accredited and UKAS certified Carbon Neutral business, the first of its type to receive these certifications. Over the last few years, the team has been planning and implementing significant and tangible steps, all of which align with science-based ambitions and the UK government’s targets for Carbon Reduction Planning.
With a core focus on reducing waste and green energy, the head office has made the switch to Navitas solar panels and uses this green energy to charge its company vehicles and forklift trucks. The solar panels alone will save the equivalent of 1,461 trees. Grayson will also be using Tesla batteries to store surplus energy meaning that the company will be using its own generated electricity and going completely off-grid.
Grayson’s actions have been managed under the internationally recognised PAS 2060 process, a specification standard detailing how to demonstrate carbon neutrality, produced and published by the British Standards Institution (BSI). Additionally, the company has earned third-party certification from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), one of the most respected third-party approval bodies in the world. In recognition of the company’s environmental initiatives, Grayson also recently won the highly-contested 'Sustainability Award' at The National Building & Construction Awards; a huge achievement and a fantastic industry endorsement. The UK construction industry is rapidly evolving, and Grayson is proud to be at the very forefront of this evolution.
Tony Higson, Managing Director at Grayson, says: “I’m thrilled to have met our target of becoming carbon neutral by May 2024 and proud to say that we’re the first business of our time to achieve this. Most are setting targets for 2035 so we’re well and truly leading the way in sustainability. We take it very seriously and it’s a moral obligation that will eventually become recognised and add value to our offering.
Main contractors are already buying into what we’re doing. Several blue chip contractors have already committed to switching from single-use wood and plastic mortar boards to Grayson’s mortar boards – the most environmentally friendly ones on the market. For example, Willmot Dixon recently stipulated that it wanted Grayson’s 100% recyclable mortar boards on all of its sites across the UK. Other tier-one contractors are starting to make moves too which is great. Awareness is certainly growing.”
