Energy efficiency expertise pivotal to BriggsAmasco’s latest award success

BriggsAmasco was delighted to take home the Single Ply Roofing Association’s (SPRA) Sustainability Award 2025 for its work on an £80m redevelopment and Passivhaus project at Perth High School.

Announced at a finalists’ presentation held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole in Birmingham on Wednesday 1^st July, the award – presented to both BriggsAmasco and Bauder Limited – acknowledged BriggsAmasco’s sterling efforts to minimise carbon emissions and materials.

The Perth High School project perfectly illustrated BriggsAmasco’s single ply roofing excellence. Having been tasked with undertaking the flat roof waterproofing, steel decking installation, perimeter drip flashings, permanent walkway installation and permanent edge protection installation, outstanding levels of technical knowhow and workmanship were on display throughout to ensure the 6,000m² school roof’s delivery met Passivhaus Classic standards.

In fact, the company drew on its extensive expertise to install a roof capable of meeting the project’s demanding energy performance targets of 67kwH/m²/annum.

The judges were particularly impressed with the roofing installation’s thermal performance, noting the meticulous attention to detail required to ensure the double-layer method was completed with minimal gaps to uphold Passivhaus tolerances.

Despite the challenge of the roof’s complex geometry, BriggsAmasco closely collaborated with the design team to develop a solution that staggered insulation layers at level-change junctions. As a result, cold bridging was eliminated and a continuous thermal envelope was maintained.

Kobir Ahamed, BriggsAmasco’s Sustainability Manager, indicated the award success was, in no small part, down to the close collaboration between BriggsAmasco and the design team. He said: “This was a tremendous achievement and it is testimony to not only the quality of the products but also the installations by our specialist team and the cohesion between all involved in the project. In fact, exceptional levels of precision, planning and quality control were required to achieve the ultra-low energy outcome, and the roof’s aesthetically striking finish.”

It was a hugely successful evening for BriggsAmasco, with the company also receiving Highly Commended: Best New Build award for its work on the design and construction of the new Pudsey Sixth Form College.

The £11.4 million development involved the design and construction of a 1,611m² roof that included rooftop solar PV panels and air source heat pumps. The design called for a large continuous roof area, which created demanding wind uplift requirements across the corner, perimeter and field zones.

The early coordination between BriggsAmasco, IKO Group and the wider project team helped resolve these challenges before installation began and ensure the waterproofing solution aligned to the building’s performance requirements while accommodating renewable energy on the rooftop.
