BriggsAmasco’s commitment to reducing its greenhouse gasses has received globally recognised accreditation.
The company’s receipt of the ISO 14064-1 international standard commemorates its rigorous commitment to the Scope 1, 2, 3 emissions inventory. The programme, implemented through the Achilles Carbon Reduce Certification Scheme, verifies an organisation’s direct and indirect CO2 output. Providing a clear and accurate assessment of carbon impacts through a Scope 1, 2, 3 emissions inventory enables companies to demonstrate to stakeholders and potential clients the steps they are taking to achieve greater sustainability.
Kobir Ahamed, BriggsAmasco Sustainability Manager, (pictured) said: “Achieving ISO 14064-1 certification hallmarks our status as a company dedicated to environmental best practice. A Scope 1, 2, 3 emissions inventory involves a big commitment, requiring a lot of time and investigation to provide an accurate assessment of CO2 impact. Despite the effort involved, it’s vital that businesses like ours engage with globally-recognised low-carbon initiatives, as they are essential to our energy-smart future.”
BriggsAmasco’s long-term drive for net-zero carbon neutrality is supported by a comprehensive sustainability strategy. Recent initiatives have included a huge solar panel installation at the company’s Cradley Heath offices in Birmingham, which is expected to ensure the site is solar energy reliant during the summer months.
Earlier this year, the company became the first UK roofing and waterproofing contractor to receive Carbon Literate Organisation (CLO) accreditation. The award certifies BriggsAmasco’s commitment to ensuring employees are knowledgeable about climate change and related environmental issues.
BriggsAmasco’s emissions reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a corporate climate action organisation that develops standards. SBTi provides a range of tools and guidance, allowing companies to set standard greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions targets to keep global heating below catastrophic levels and achieve net-zero by 2050 at the latest.
With the world in a race against time to reduce its carbon footprint and offset the effects of manmade climate change, SBTi Chief Executive Officer, David Kennedy, praised BriggsAmasco’s targets.
He said: “To stay competitive in a net-zero world, companies must act fast and decisively. Briggs Amasco has done just that, setting robust net-zero targets that respond to climate science and set a new benchmark for others in their industry.”
